Famous website YouTube has been opened in Pakistan after a ban of almost 1 and a half year. This unban is not throughout Pakistan and this is partial.

The reason for resuming the services of YouTube in Pakistan is that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has installed filters in order to block the blasphemous content present on YouTube.

In order to test the filters, PTA has partially allowed the services of YouTube to function in various parts of Pakistan. In Pakistan YouTube was first banned on 22nd of February 2008. It was opened after two days only on 24th of February 2008. On 20th of May 2010 it was banned once again due to the uploading of blasphemous content but after YouTube promised to remove the controversial content, it was opened on 27th of May 2010.

The problems once again made the headlines when a blasphemous movie was uploaded and YouTube was banned in Pakistan and various other countries of the world on 17th of September 2012. This time the ban continued for around 1 and a half years and it was the longest tenure YouTube remained banned in Pakistan.
