Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has been axed from the One day squad following a forgettable One day Series against South Africa.

PCB announced the preliminary 30 member squad which will be trimmed down to 15 for Champions Trophy here in Gaddafi Stadium today. Younis Khan, along with the young off-spinner Raza Hassan, was the only noticeable exclusion. No official reason was cited for the axing but critics believe the poor run of form ultimately forced the selectors to put the curtain down.

Younis Khan had an atrocious tour of South Africa where he, apart from scoring a century in the second test, kept on failing against top class bowling. The ODI’s leg of the tour sealed the deal where he failed to reach a half century once in five attempts, putting extra pressure on an already brittle middle order. At 35, barring a remarkable collective Batting failure of the Pakistan Batsmen in the Champions trophy which may force the selectors to look back, he may well have played his last One day International in South Africa.
