After recovering from the pandemic coronavirus that shackled Wuhan and Mainland, China found the patient of already discovered virus today called Hantavirus.

According to Global Times, the person was returning from Yunnan when he was detected suffering from the old virus. There were 32 passengers on the bus as well. They all were tested but results would come soon.

Many of the sites and social media are saying that its newly discovered virus has brought China in trouble but it is an old virus that was discovered in 1993 in the United States of America.

What is Hantavirus?

Hantavirus is not as dangerous as COVID-19. It is transmitted from rodents to humans when humans come into contact with their faeces, urine and nest material of the animal. However, it can cause Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) and Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS).

What are the symptoms of Hantavirus?

Although the two are different, they have almost the same symptoms. It takes around one to eight weeks to develop the symptoms of this virus. The initial symptoms include fever, ache in head, thighs, hips and back. The patient may have diarrhea, vomiting, chills, nausea, and dizziness. Lately, they would have cough and shortness of breath. These are the symptoms when the patient is suffering from HPS.

Meanwhile, the symptoms of HFRS develop within two weeks or fourteen days. Initially, the patients would have blurred vision, nausea, chills, fever and back, and abdominal pain. The patients would have an excessive headache as well. Lately, the patients suffer from acute kidney failure, acute shock, vascular leakage, and low blood pressure.

What is the cure of Hantavirus?

Unfortunately, there is no cure of Hantavirus. There is an absence of the availability of vaccines and specific treatment of HPS and HFRS. Yet, Oxygen therapy and ICU are used to treat patients’ respiratory illness and problems.

Social media has boomed when Global Times break the news on Twitter and on its site. Fake news and other hype have been created. Yet, the users and readers do not have to worry because of rodent-transmitting virus because it is not airborne. You can catch it when you come in contact with rodents’ urine and faeces. Therefore, avoid rodent, stay at home, distance yourself from others, use hand sanitizer, use masks and keep yourself safe from coronavirus which has taken lives of more than 8000 patients and infected more than 200,000 people.
