The Central Superior Service (CSS) exam is the most prestigious exam in our country. The exam could previously be given in the English language only with no other language option available. But now the Senate has passed a resolution through which the CSS exams will also be available in Urdu giving the candidates the choice to either give the examination in Urdu language or in the English language. The resolution was passed unanimously in the Senate after Senator Siraj-ul-Haq presented a resolution which asked for the CSS exams to be taken in Urdu only. However, that resolution was rejected by the government totally.

The Jamat-e-Islami chief said that Urdu is our official language and hence the exam should be taken in Urdu only. Siraj-ul-Haq gave examples of countries like China, Germany, and Korea saying that they use their national language and have been successful. Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammed Khan, said that CSS has 6 compulsory exams and all these 6 compulsory exams are taught in English in universities. He suggested that the candidates should be given a choice for attempting the paper in either of the languages. Rather than choosing one language only, availability of option would be a better choice for the students.

With the option of selecting any one language given by the Minister, chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani decided to include Urdu as an optional language in the exam. The inclusion of Urdu language will certainly help a lot of students who are not so fluent in English and are unable to express themselves properly when it comes to explaining topics in English. Through the addition, it is expected that there will be a rise in the number of candidates clearing the CSS exams as they now have an option to give it in Urdu as well.
