The recent story is that Saudi Arabia is buying nukes (atomic arsenal) from Pakistan Army. It is to be noted that Saudi Arabia is part of a treaty along with other countries according to which Saudi Arabia cannot take part in any of nuclear material activities. If Saudi Arabia proceeds with the deal with Pakistani officials it will no longer be abide by the treaty and will have to face severe consequences. However Saudi officials have different take on the subject of Nuclear weapons. A Saudi officer who is working in defense minister commented as follows

“I don’t understand what the story is. This has been in the news for 18 years and will continue to be for the next 15 years.”Not only that he called these speculations rumors and added “The ministry does not comment on rumors and speculation,”

The US officials also issued statements more to remind Saudi Arabia about the treaty. The experts from the statements are as follows:

“It has committed never to acquire nuclear weapons, and to apply full international safeguards to all peaceful nuclear activities, we attach great importance to Saudi Arabia’s continued implementation of these commitments.”

“We have consulted throughout the recent negotiations with our allies and partners around the world, including Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf countries, and will continue to do so as we move into the final weeks and months of these talks,”

If Saudi Arabia proceeds since Sunday times has claimed that Saudi Arabia has been bankrolling Pakistan’s nuclear program and now is ready to take some nukes, it will raise many concerns in Arab countries especially because Iran will find an excuse to get out of the treaty and proceed with its own nuclear program. Israel also has some serious issues regarding the supposed deal.
