Sarfaraz Ahmed Removed as Pakistan Test Captain

Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has been having a tough time in the recent past. The team under his captaincy couldn’t make it to the semifinals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and now there are reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to relieve Sarafaz Ahmed of his duties as a captain in the test format. The decision has been taken and it is expected that the official announcement will be made very soon after the Cricket Committee’s meeting scheduled on 2nd August in Lahore. The PCB wants to have a new captain in the test format before the start of the Test Championship this year.
It is reported that Shan Masood is all set to replace Sarfaraz Ahmed in the national side as test captain. The decision could be a big gamble keeping in mind that Shan Masood himself has failed to cement his place in the test side and has been in and out of the team for quite some time now. The left-handed opening batsman has scored only 797 runs for Pakistan in 15 matches at an average of 26.43. Shan Masood captains the side of NBP in the domestic circuit and soon he could be the one to replace Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Shan Masood last played for Pakistan in the South Africa test series where he scored two fifties and looked the most promising batsman. There are some reservations from some people in the PCB regarding Shan Masood but it looks as if the board has made the decision to make him the captain. Sarfaraz Ahmed, for now, will be continuing to lead the team in the limited-overs format until the 2020 T20 World Cup. During Sarfaraz’s regime, Pakistan played 13 test matches and managed to win only 4 out of them.
