Although 26-year old boxer from Quetta Muhammad Waseem ended up with a silver medal in 52-kg flyweight final but he was not convinced.

This medal is Pakistan’s fourth and a third silver. Muhammad Waseem on this occasion commented that

It was very exciting, but the referees’ decision was controversial. I know I was winning, even my opponent and his coaches thought I was winning. I dominated the fight from the get go

Muhammad Waseem further expressing his views said that he was shocked after the winner was announced and he even raised his hands anticipating that he has won the bout. Furthermore he felt like it was a gold medal wasted due to unfair decision of the judges’ panel.

He said that as a boxer you have a gut feeling when you are playing and you know whether you are winning or losing. According to Muhammad Waseem his opponent tried very hard but could make proper contact. Muhammad Waseem also indicated that coaches of Maloney also weren’t very confident as they weren’t happy with his performance and they told me that they thought that you are going to win the match.

Team manager and Pakistan Boxing Federation secretary Iqbal Hussain told media that

I would’ve been very proud had we won the gold medal, we were so close. Waseem was a better boxer in the ring technically and talent-wise. He competed with all his heart in the last two rounds; however, I can only say that it wasn’t his day. His opponent got lucky

Whatever the situation is, it is really a big achievement that Muhammad Waseem despite being very less resourceful as compared to his opponents made it to the grand stage of playing a final in Glasgow. He must have been disappointed but this is not the end of the road for him.
