More than four thousand Pakistanis are kept in various detention centers throughout Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Pakistani authorities have not been successful till yet to resolve the issue with Saudi government.

These Pakistanis are the ones who were captured after the foreign workers visa policies got strict and Saudi government started campaigns against illegal residents in Saudi Arabia. They were brought to detention centers after being captured from all over Saudi Arabia.

Media sources say that Pakistani ambassador and Counsel General visited these people and are trying to negotiate with Saudi government so that these people can return to their homeland.

Media sources also claim that due to the efforts of Pakistani officials, nine lac Pakistani people got regularized in Saudi Arabia. This is the highest number of people who got regularized belonging to a single country.

Pakistanis are basically kept in four detention centers. One detention center has 103 Pakistanis, second has 2238 Pakistanis, third one has 1626 Pakistanis and the fourth one has 384 Pakistanis. Last one has only 41 Pakistanis detained and it includes all women who have children born in Saudi Arabia but they do not have evidence of their parenthood.

Life of these detainees is quite miserable in detention centers. They are not fed appropriately. Their employers are asking for huge sums sometimes up to 20,000 Saudi Riyal in order to extend their work visas.

Although Government of Pakistan claims that they are doing everything in their hands to get these Pakistanis back to their homeland but family members of the detainees claim that Pakistani embassy in Saudi Arabia is not cooperating for the freedom of these prisoners.
