LHC Orders Arrest of Shaista, Veena, Asad & Mir Shakeel

Lahore High Court has ordered to arrest the owner of Jang/Geo Group Mir Shakeel Ur Rehman along with morning show ‘Utho Jaago Pakistan’ host Shaista Lodhi, actress Veena Malik and her husband Asad Bashir Khan.

The order was issued by the court on writ petition of Nadeem Shibli Advocate. Justice Aijaz Ahsan of the Lahore High Court issued the order to arrest these four people. This was not the first petition but a huge number of petitions were filed against the blasphemous act in the morning show hosted by Sahista Lodhi. During the morning show, a manqibat (religious poetry) was played during the ceremony of re-enactment of Veena and Asad’s wedding.

It is noteworthy that Federal Interior Secretary and Inspector General Punjab Police are made respondents in the petition. Shibli said during the hearing that a joint investigation team should be formed in order to look after this case.

Lahore High Court has ordered the Inspector General Punjab Police to arrest the four people within 15 day time.

The difficult part on behalf of Inspector General Punjab Police is that all four people are currently out of Pakistan. Veena and Asad left for Dubai and their whereabouts are currently not known. Shaista Lodhi left for Qatar and she is expected to claim Asylum in United Kingdom or United States of America. Mir Shakeel Ur Rehman is already based in Dubai.

So in order to nab all the four people, the Interior Ministry will have to play a major role and it seems that this is far-fetched idea that all four of them will be arrested any time sooner or they all might evade the arrest successfully.
