In the morning show of Geo Entertainment ‘Utho Jaago Pakistan’ hosted by Shaista Lodhi where Veena Malik and Asad Bashir Khan were guests, a blasphemous action was conducted by the program management.
Both of the guests were made bride and groom while intentionally or intentionally the mistake was made by playing Kalaam ‘Dulhan Jaldi Banao Fatma Zuhra Ko Yaaro’ which was translated as blasphemy by religious scholars as Hazrat Ali (R.A) and Hazrat Fatma (R.A) were mentioned at the time of this ceremony where Veena and Asad were bride and groom.

Countrywide demonstrations took place after the issue was raised. People from almost every walk of life condemned this action by Geo TV. Shaista Lodhi publically apologized for the unintentional blasphemy on Geo TV.

Geo TV also released a statement stating that the whole team of morning show ‘Utho Jaago Pakistan’ has been suspended and an inquiry regarding the blasphemy case is being started.

PEMRA has also sent show cause notice to Geo TV on the blasphemy case. According to PEMRA, Geo TV has violated PEMRA Rules 2009 Code of Conduct Incisions I and P according to which TV programs that are against Pakistan and Islam cannot be run on Televisions. According to PEMRA more than 5000 complaints have been registered against this program on PEMRA call centers and website.

A petition has been filed in Sindh High Court against Geo TV on blasphemous morning show. Advocate Mehfooz Yaar Khan has filed the petition in which he has taken the stance that Geo TV morning show has committed blasphemy while PEMRA has not been carrying out its duties properly. He has requested that license of Geo TV should be cancelled and director of the morning show should be brought to justice.
Sunni Itehad Council clerics have issued fatwa according to which watching Geo TV has been ruled as haram. According to them, Geo TV has made fun of Sahaba-e-Karaam and they cannot keep silent on this issue and Geo TV should be completely boycotted.
