Following this announcement, President Mamnoon Hussain has rejected the mercy petitions of 8 convicted terrorists. It is believed that these terrorists might be hanged within the next 24 hours.

Names of these terrorists are not revealed due to security risks while at the same time, the security of jails throughout the country has been tightened to stop terrorists from escaping.

Hanging to death has been suspended in Pakistan since September 2008 by then government led by Asif Ali Zardari for economic gains from Europe. There are almost 8000 convicted prisoners in Pakistani jails who are ordered to be hanged by the court but since this moratorium has been at work, none of them has been hanged to death.

It is not clear whether this hanging will be temporary or this will be applicable to all who are waiting to be hanged to death or just those convicted in terrorist cases. Once action has been taken, the story will be clear.
