The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority also known as ‘SMEDA’ needs to establish a printing and packaging institute in Pakistan, recommended UNISAME. The establishment of an institute of Printing and Packaging Technology (IP&PT) should be directed at educating the small and medium enterprises of Pakistan about latest printing techniques such as 3D Printing.
UNISAME is a forum sponsored by SMILE Pvt Ltd. It is entrusted with the tasks of creating awareness of rights among the SMEs. It also identifies impediments to SME growth and recommends remedies to the policy makers. It also acts as a facilitator in the SME sector.

Zulfikar Thaver, the President UNISAME, said that need to establish such an institute is dire. He said that SMEDA needs to set up the IP&PT and introduce the three-dimensional printing technology to the small and medium enterprises and hence, meet the global challenges of packaging, designing, and packing.

He recalled that the UNISAME had suggested the same at the time of framing of the SME policy back in 2007 but unfortunately the policy makers underrated the need and requirement of the institute. He said that the importance should be envisaged as the introduction of 3D printing technology is all set to reform the packaging techniques.

The President UNISAME said that the UNISAME is looking forward to SMEDA. He said that SMEDA should presume a proactive role in the modernization of the printing and packaging industry for the SME sector if it wanted to lessen the reliance on imports.
