Deleting messages on WhatsApp has been a godsend for most people. Although the feature was helpful, the short time limit to delete a message meant that you need to delete it fast to have any effect.

Now, the Facebook-owned company is improving the feature to make it more useful.

While the limit previously used to give users the room to delete an unwanted message within seven minutes, a new update extends it to 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds. We don’t know how Facebook settled on the limit, though, it was recently revealed on Twitter through WABetaInfo.

Nothing Big?

This pales in comparison to some other services such as Telegram, which gives users 48 hours to delete a sent text. Like Engadget notes, it is still better than Google’s 30 send un-send limit on Gmail, so users will be happy either way.

First unveiled in October, the message deletion feature was useful for users to escape hot waters. It’s easy to use, simply select the messages you want to delete and tap the delete icon at the top. Multiple messages can also be deleted at once.

The deleted message is subsequently replaced by a “This message was deleted” message. There’s a delete option for both your own account and for everyone.

Availability

The feature will be available to iOS and Android users on version 2.18.31, which will be released in the coming weeks. If you still haven’t received it, it’s probably a good idea to wait just a bit longer for it.

However, if you want to try it out, you can download the latest beta version of WhatsApp here.
