UET Peshawar Receives Approval to Build a Campus in Dir

University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar has approved the establishment of the PC-1 Dir Campus.

It will cost Rs. 2,019.699 million and will be funded by the provincial government through the Annual Development Plan fund. The approval was given by the Provincial Development Working Party in their meeting this September. This project will be completed in around three years time.

According to Project Director Dr. Nasir Ahmad, the campus will be built on an area of 250-Kanals in the Darora Area of District Upper Dir.

It will have two departments – Civil Engineering and Electrical Power Engineering. The campus will have modern laboratories and living quarters for the students as well.

The construction phase is expected to start soon after the completion of the legal paperwork and the required formalities. The new campus will be open for students and general usage by 2018.

How The Plan Came About

Initially the Local Government, Elections & Rural Development Minister, Inaytullah Khan, presented the idea of a new campus in Upper Dir in 2015. The main purpose of this project was to enhance technical education in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Innaytullah Khan said,

It will not only provide job opportunities to the people of Upper Dir but also produce [more] talented engineers.

The survey of the location was completed in 2016.

More Funds Will Be Provided if Required

The minister said that more funds will be allocated for development and construction if needed and classes for civil and electrical engineering will start as soon as possible.

He added that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government aims for the betterment of the area and wants to develop the region by building roads and bridges. This, in turn, will give more job opportunities to the locals and increase tourism in the area.
