Yesterday Google unveiled its annual ‘Year in Search Pakistan’. It basically lists what everyone in Pakistan is searching for on Google across different categories including movies, people, Coronavirus, trending events and occasions, and smartphones.

Among the top 10 smartphones searched for in Pakistan in 2020, the highest number of searches were for Huawei’s Y9a, which is a shocker since the company has been losing sales and popularity in the region due to the lack of Google apps and services.

The list was almost completely dominated by Chinese smartphones, with no Samsung or Nokia in sight. Other than 2 Huawei phones, there were 4 different Vivo phones, 2 Infinix phones and the Oppo F17 Pro.

It is not surprising that there were no high-end flagships (save iPhone 12) on the list. Instead, the most searched smartphones belong either to the upper entry-level tier (from PKR 15,000 to 26,000) or the mid-range tier (from PKR 40,000 to 60,000).

Here are more details of the most searched smartphones in 2020.

Huawei Y9a

The smartphone was launched in September at the IFA 2020 event. It is a tweaked version of the Huawei Enjoy 20 Plus that debuted in China a while ago.

Huawei Y9a comes with a pop-up selfie cam, a Mate 30-inspired camera aisle with a quad-sensor camera setup, MediaTek Dimensity 720 chip, and a 4200 mAh battery with 40W fast charging.
