Telenor Pakistan has become the largest Automated Meter Reading (AMR) solutions provider in the country with an on-going deployment of 17,000 smart meters in five cities of Pakistan including Islamabad, Hyderabad, Multan, Lahore and Peshawar.

Automatic meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically collecting consumption, diagnostic, and status data from water meter or energy metering devices (gas, electric) and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analysing.

Automated Smart Meters have been deployed by Telenor in five distribution companies in collaboration with International Resources Group, an American enterprise which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Engility Corporation.

The Automated Smart Meter deployment will help reduce distribution losses, electricity theft and increasing labor productivity by automating monitoring, meter reading and load management.

Talking about the impact of the project, Irfan Wahab, Chief Marketing Officer, Telenor Pakistan said, “As a socially responsible company, Telenor Pakistan is committed to providing consumers with innovative services and benefits of technology through M2M technology and green solutions. Automated Smart meters are going to be instrumental in enhancing working efficiencies of energy companies while consumers will also benefit from this with better load management in the long run. Becoming the largest AMR solutions provider is a matter of great pride for us and will continue to work towards innovative M2M solutions that have a positive impact on the lives of our customers.”
