The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT and Telecom has expressed concerns over the issue of recovery of due payments by telecom firms, especially the LDI operators who have stay orders over the pending payment, reported ‘The News’ today.

The committee, which met yesterday under the chairmanship of Birjees Tahir, made recommendation for seizing accounts of defaulters so as to set a precedent for the future.

The meeting stressed upon the Ministry of IT & Telecom to take immediate steps for recovery and to bring the culprits to justice. The committee also demanded the suspension of the licenses of the concerned LDI operators.

Earlier, briefing the committee Dr. Yaseen, Chairman Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA), informed that LDI operators had challenged the APC rule in the high court on which the court gave its decision in favor of the PTA.

He informed that PTA in the meanwhile issued orders for suspension of licenses of WorldCall, Wisecomm, 4-B Gentle, Multinet and Red Tone for non-payment of dues on which High Court ordered for the stay.

He said the said operators challenged the matter in Supreme Court which is now subjudiced.

It is worth mentioning that PTA has to recover Rs. 41 billion out of which 15.904 billion rupees are total outstanding from top ten LDI Operators. The Committee however opined to wait for the report of PAC in this regard and maintained that the said companies’ accounts be seized.

Chairman Ch Barjees Tahir further added in recommendation that the names of the owners must also be included in ECL (Exit Control List).
