Prime Minister Imran Khan has given the go-ahead to the proposed new domestic structure of cricket in Pakistan. He made the decision in his capacity as Patron in Chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The country’s new cricket structure, as per media reports, is solely region-based and a total of six regional teams will be part of the new setup.

There will be two teams from Punjab in first-class cricket, and one each from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan/Azad Kashmir, and Balochistan.

The new domestic structure will put extra focus on cricket at the grassroot level to unearth the talent from underprivileged areas.

The new domestic setup is according to PM Khan’s wishes who had asked the PCB to adopt the Australian model of cricket. In the new system, departments will not be allowed to pitch their teams. They, however, can sponsor regional teams and PM Imran has requested all departments to continue offering financial and other services to the PCB.
