Another day, another scandal concerning Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Following the interrogation of a flight attendant who was caught with drugs in Paris this Sunday, another member of the PIA crew, a flight steward, has been arrested by the French authorities.

Details

Two members of the cabin staff, traveling on an Islamabad-Paris flight (PK-749), were caught smuggling narcotics on board the flight. Tanveer Gulzar, along with his alleged accomplice Amir Moeen, was caught with four packets of narcotics that he had hidden inside concealed pockets on his coat.

The French authorities recovered the drugs and detained the accused, after performing a body check on Tanveer Gulzar.

The nature of the drugs has not been disclosed as of yet. A PIA spokesperson reported,

Though, drugs have been recovered from the possession of the cabin crew member, the PIA management has not been informed about the kind and quantity of drugs. Tanveer Gulzar, the PIA steward who was caught with drugs by the French customs while going to a hotel for rest, has been suspended by the management and will be terminated from service in the light of outcome of the investigation conducted by the French authorities.

Excluding the ones held by the French officials, the rest of the PIA staff on flight PK-749 returned back to Pakistan this Sunday.

Amir Moeen, the alleged accomplice, is currently being held by the French authorities after Tanveer’s testimony. However, he has not been charged so far.

Amir Moeen will also be suspended and sacked if his involvement in the drug smuggling incident is proven by the French authorities.
