Pakistan Could Run Out Of Water By 2025 Due to Climate Change

On Wednesday 30th November, experts said that Pakistan might run out of water by 2025 if no corrective actions are taken to combat climate change.
This was stated by Mr. Nasser Memon during a seminar held by the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on climate change.
Mr. Nasser Memon, CEO of Strengthening Participatory Organization, was talking about some basic facts about climate change. He stated that the country will run out of water by 2025 if solid measures are not taken, and the consequences of it will be horrible for Pakistan.
According to him, Pakistan is one of the top five countries which are affected badly by the changing climate around the globe.
Furthermore he said that in the 20th century, the global average of sea level increased 10 to 20cm and snow covered has reduced. In the past 40 years, 2.4 billion people have been affected by climatic incidents from over 1333 climatic disasters.
He brought forward the matter of deforestation as well, saying that Pakistan is in danger zone if you consider climate change and it has become an issue of national security for the country.
He said that Pakistan, among the list of other countries in the world, has the highest rate of deforestation, which makes it the country with the most deforestation going on in it, having a ratio of 2.1% in the case of deforestation.
He argued that awareness of this crucial matter must be created and tree plantation should be made compulsory for every other Pakistani citizen.
Rector NUML Major General Zia Ud Din Najam (Retd) said that these climate changing factors, such as the depletion of water and deforestation are continuously being ignored by the society and if awareness isn’t created about these factors, the survival of this country would be at stake.
