NEPRA Hikes Electricity Rates By Rs 1.16

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notice for an increase of Rs 1.16/unit in the electricity price following a petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) which had proposed an increase of Rs 1.50/unit increase.
The hike has been approved under the fuel price adjustment for August and will be applicable on all the power distributors except for K-Electric.

Earlier, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had deferred the hike in electricity prices in Tuesday’s meeting headed by Finance Minister Asad Umar while directing NEPRA and Power Division to come up with a comprehensive plan for maximizing recovery, overcoming distribution and transmission losses, and improvement in service delivery.
The proposal for ‘Tariff Rationalization for Power Sector’ was presented by the Ministry of Energy in the meeting following which the Finance Minister had directed the Power Division to not put the burden on the poor.
The decision for increasing prices came earlier today on the directions of the power regulator. Imran Khan led government had earlier hinted at taking tough decisions to support the crippling economy and this is another one of those decisions.
