PTA-logoCabinet Division, with the approval of Prime Minister of Pakistan, has issued the notification for the restoration of Mr. Nasrul Karim Ghaznavi as member finance at Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, we have confirmed with sources at regulatory headquarters.

Mr. Ghaznavi was suspended in April 2011 amid an inquiry for charges that were alleged by his then-chairman Dr. Muhammad Yasin. It is learned that inquiry was concluded and charges were withdrawn before the reappointment of Mr. Ghaznavi as Member Finance of the authority.

This development also marks the completion of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority board, which consists of two members (finance and Technical) and the chairman.

During suspension of Mr. Ghaznavi, Mr. Shabbir served the authority as interim member finance, who lately resigned from his responsibility reasoning personal issues. Various matters at PTA (including the salary increment of entire PTA staff and arrears of one whole year) were pending due to absence of member finance, which is now likely to get resolved.

In a related news, Mr. Farooq Awan is receiving negative press over his appointment of PTA chairmanship, which hints differences amongst PTA management. Similar differences during the tenure of Dr. Yasin (especially in his last 18 months) had badly impacted the authority and the industry. Repetition of which is not affordable at a point when Pakistan is again preparing to auction 3G.
