Punjab Education Minister, Murad Raas, has announced that schools across the province will remain open as scheduled despite a surge in coronavirus cases.

He announced this following the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) chaired by the Federal Education Minister, Shafqat Mahmood, on Thursday.

Just got done with the meeting of all Education Ministers of Pakistan. Schools in Punjab will remain OPEN & run on the current schedule.

He asked parents to regard all other reports as fake news.

Raas said that the pandemic situation is under control as of now. He, however, requested students, teachers, and staff members to follow SOPs issued by the School Education Department Punjab in true letter and spirit.

Rumors have been rife for the past week that the government is shutting down schools once again following the second wave of COVID-19 infections. Each time, Murad Raas and Shafqat Mahmood had to debunk fake reports to avoid any confusion among the students and parents.

The conference also deliberated winter vacations, shifting the start of the new academic year from April to August, and board examinations of 8th grade.

Officials of the health ministry also briefed the meeting attended by education ministers and other high-level officials of all provinces via video link.
