Mobilink Foundation Torchbearers (employee volunteers) claim to have organized Pakistan’s largest corporate blood collection drive. The nationwide initiative by Mobilink employees collected over 500 pints of blood over the course of one day.
The drive was organized in partnership with Fatimid Foundation and Sundus Foundation as a means of collecting blood for children suffering from a range of chronic and life threatening illnesses including Thalassaemia.
In the first half of 2013, Mobilink Foundation Torchbearers provided blood donations to help over 3,000 young Thalassaemia patients across Pakistan.
Omar Manzur, Head of Corporate Communications Mobilink said, “Employee volunteerism is a core driver of the Mobilink Foundation and our employees are strongly encouraged to promote a humanitarian spirit. I am very glad to see that our Torchbearers have taken the lead in making such a lasting impact on so many young lives.”
Thalassaemia is a hereditary genetic blood disorder. Over 5,000 children are born with this disease in Pakistan every year and their survival depends on regular blood transfusion for the rest of their lives. Many children succumb to early demise because of not being able to receive blood transfusion in time.
