Mobile Services BlockedOn directions of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, cellular services are suspended in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi for over 24 hours now.

Citing the advisory from Interior Ministry, the regulator had asked all cellular operators to suspend mobile phone and wireless services on the route of Long March that is headed by Dr. Tahirul Qadri.

Mobile services were suspended – on account of security threats during Long March – in Islamabad and Rawalpindi around 12 PM yesterday. This service closure of mobile cellular and wireless services spanned the entire Rawalpindi district.

We are also getting limited reports that cellular services in Gujranwala and GT road are down, even after 36 hours.

While the Long March procession had reached Islamabad last night, Dr. Tahirul Qadri and thousands of Long March participants have announced sit-in till the departure of provincial and federal government.

In view of law and order situation and arrest orders of Prime Minister, Raja Parvez Ashraf by Supreme Court (in Rental-Power case), it appears that atmosphere and security situation may persist for several days.

During all this, it is still unclear that when mobile phone services will be restored in the capital city.

It merits mentioning here that cellular companies (headquartered in Islamabad) have announced holiday on second consecutive day today. We are getting reports that operations in cellular companies may remain halted for another few days.

Update (09:15 PM)

Mobile services are in process of being restored.
