Microsoft’s New Surface Book 2 and Laptop Models Might Be Its Most Affordable Yet

Months after the release of the original Surface Book 2, Microsoft is updating the line-up with a (comparatively) cheaper model for people who can make do with lesser storage and power.

New Surface Book 2 Model

The new Surface Book 2 comes with a new lowest storage option, 128 GB, which is half the storage of the next cheapest model. The model starts at $300 cheaper than the 256 GB one at $1,199 which should open the 2-in-1 to a new segment of the market.

You’ll still have to buy the Surface Type Cover separately, which retails separately for $129.99. You get a Core i5 processor with Intel HD 620 graphics and 8 GB RAM.

For users who require more power, there’s a GeForce GTX 1050 model, too (though it starts at almost double the price, at $1999), while the storage options go up to 1 TB.

The 15-inch model still comes with a 256 GB SSD, not being given the cheaper price treatment, as well as a Core i7 processor with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU.

New Surface Laptop

Finally, you have the new Surface Laptop, which now starts at $999 rather than $799. In order to make the price cut, rather than cutting the storage (which stays the same at 128 GB), Microsoft is lowering the processing power.

So, instead of the Intel Core i5-7200U with integrated HD 620, you’ll get a 1.0 GHz Core m3-7Y30 (boost to 2.6 GHz) with HD 615 graphics, as well as 4 GB RAM.

RAM and storage options go till 16 GB and 512 GB respectively, with processor options going up to a 2.5 GHz Core i7-7660U. However, you won’t get a discrete graphics card option as with the Surface Book 2.
