Karachi often remains in the news for all the wrong reasons. This time around we have a similar situation as Pakistan’s largest city is also the second-largest consumer of cannabis in the world.

Interestingly, cannabis which also known as marijuana is illegal all over Pakistan including Karachi. Despite the fact, the metropolitan city is the second city after New York in the list of top ten cities of pot consumers.

World Index issued a report ‘Weed Index-2018’ in which it categorized world’s ten most cannabis consuming cities.

New York tops the list with 77.44 metric tonnes of cannabis being smoked in the past year. The people of Karachi consumed 41.95 tonnes of marijuana in 2018 to stay ahead of Delhi’s 38.26 tonnes.

The other entries in the list are Los Angeles, Cairo, Mumbai, London, Chicago, Moscow, and Toronto respectively.

This is the second consecutive year that has seen Karachi being the second-largest consumer of the banned drug.

Asian countries are known for producing and selling cannabis at the cheapest rate with a gram of weed available at a price range of Rs. 100 to Rs. 500.
