Google Reveals Specs for Its Glass

Ever since Google’s Glass was revealed, its specs have been much speculated in the technology circles. The resolution camera, the storage, the display resolution, all these details were unknown — Until now. Google has finally updated the Glass’ website with all the necessary details so the wait is over now.
To start with, the Glass’ display has a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. That might not sound much but according to Google, is “the equivalent of a 25 inch high definition screen from eight feet away”. The camera alongside the tiny display is of 5 megapixels and can also shoot 720p HD videos.
For connectivity, the Glass will use Wifi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth. The amount of storage built-in tops out at 16GB, out of which 12GB will be usable. Of course that’s not expandable but cloud storage will be available too. The Glass uses “Bone conduction” to provide sound to your ears.
As for the battery, the Glass will last about a day on single charge. That’s not great but keep this is mind that these numbers might shrink even further if services like Hangouts are used or videos are recorded for long periods of time.
The accessories which will come with the Glass include a Charger and Micro USB cable.
The Glass can connect and work with any phone with Bluetooth capabilities, regardless of whether its the HTC One, Huawei Ascend P1 or even a cheap Nokia feature phone. The MyGlass application though, which enables the Glass to use GPS and send messages works only on Android phones running on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich so if you want the complete experience, a new Android phone is a must.
There’s still a question mark hanging over the availability and pricing details of the Glass. Google has previously stated that it will try to make the Glass available in 2013 so that’s not confirmed. Pricing for the explorer version is $1500 so the final version will most likely be cheaper than that but how cheaper? Only time will tell.
