She said that State Serum Institute, the apex Danish authority dealing with infectious diseases, identified these cases through laboratory tests. The premier added that the mutated virus has been found to weaken the body’s ability to form antibodies that could potentially render the under development Coronavirus vaccines ineffective.

Denmark has shared the findings of the State Serum Institute with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Mette added.

We have a great responsibility towards our own population, but with the mutation that has now been found, we have an even greater responsibility for the rest of the world as well.

Chairman WHO’s Emergencies Program, Mike Ryan, has confirmed that the WHO has been informed by Denmark about the emergence of a new strain of Coronavirus, adding that the WHO has directed the Danish government to further investigate the epidemiological and virological significance of these findings.
