In a shocking turn of events, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has appointed Farhat Khan — former head coach — as Selector of the hockey team.

The former Olympian previously resigned from the post of head coach due to supposed personal commitments.

Farhat resigned from the head coach post two days ago but the recent development has left all the experts scratching their heads.

PHF or PCB In Disguise?

Just like Pakistan Cricket Board, PHF is also surrounded by controversies. PCB is known to make questionable appointments and selections every now and then. PHF is no different as positions in the federation are shuffled after regular intervals and tours.

The appointment of Farhat just after two days of his resignation has raised some eyebrows about whether the resignation was under some deal.

PHF sacked almost all officials after poor performance of the national hockey team in Asia Cup. The team also failed to deliver in tournament played in Australia in which four nations participated.

The Selection Committee

The committee comprises of five members with Hasan Sardar being the chief selector. The other members of committee included Ayaz Mehmood, Qasim Khan and Mussadiq Hussain.

Farhat Khan was part of the Green Shirts team that won bronze in Barcelona Olympics 1992.

First job of new appointees will be to select the team that will face World XI on 8th January. Players from Germany, Argentina and Australia will be the part of World XI team that will play two matches in Lahore and Karachi.

No Head Coach

Currently, the position of head coach is still vacant and PHF is looking for a foreign coach to train the men in green. The German gold medalist and former captain Christian Blunck who won gold in Barcelona Olympics 1992 is favorite to fill the spot.
