In a notification issued earlier today, Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned ‘Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga’. The show, hosted by Aamir Liaquat on BOL News, has been banned over hate speech.

Over the past few weeks, noted anchor and part-time televangelist Aamir Liaquat Hussain has allegedly been calling out various people for indulging in anti-state and anti-religious activities.

His rhetoric quickly turned to allegedly inciting a mob against notable personalities over blasphemy allegations, after which a complaint was filed against him and his show over his rude conduct. He was accused of fomenting hate and bigotry by social activist and lawyer Jibran Nasir, citing the danger and threat to his life and others. Jibran finally complained to PEMRA regarding Aamir Liaquat’s conduct.

After a few days, the electronic media watchdog has finally decided to ban Aamir Liaquat and his show, after examining the evidence presented against him by the complainant.

PEMRA’s notice in this regard reads:

Amir Liaquat and his programme has been banned with immediate effect for preaching hate.

Amir Liaquat shall not host any programme or appear on my TV in any manner including as a guest, analyst, reporter, actor, in audio, video beeper etc, the notice read. PEMRA also stated that failure to comply with the above orders in any way by the BOL News management will result in BOL News channel’s license being suspended.

The decision was taken after monitoring the TV anchor for several weeks. It is alleged that Amir Liaquat has willfully and repeatedly made statements and allegations which equals to hate speech, derogatory remarks, incitement to violence against citizens and casting accusation of being anti-state and anti-Islam on various individuals.
