Aamir Ibrahim is going to replace Bilal Munir Sheikh as Chief Commercial Officer at Mobilink, we have checked with sources.

While there is no official confirmation of this managerial change as of yet, our sources confirmed that development is almost finalized and only an official notification is awaited.

We are expecting a notification on this — and possibly an official statement too — on coming Monday.

Bilal Munir Sheikh — who has played a key role in taking Mobilink from 2 million customers to over 38 million customers  — has headed company’s marketing department for a long time. He also remained head of sales and distribution for some time before becoming the CCO of the company almost two and half years ago.

Bilal Munir Sheikh will now head Mobilink’s mobile financial arm to get it to the next level.

It won’t be out of place to mention that business between Waseela bank and Mobilink has remained little bumpy lately and Jeffery Hedberg, CEO, Mobilink, who is extremely busy in fixing Mobilink, has probably tasked Bilal Munir Sheikh to get things at MFS rolling.

Aamir Ibrahim, who has previously worked with Mobilink for an year and half as Chief Strategy Officer, is returning back to Pakistan tomorrow. He was recently working with dtac, Telenor’s arm in Thailand. He has also served Telenor Pakistan as Chief Marketing Officer for two and half years.

Marketing, Sales, Data and Business & Analysis department of the company will now report to Aamir Ibrahim.

This management change is seemingly very crucial for Mobilink, especially at a time when company’s market position is challenged by Telenor Pakistan particularly because of on-going drive for biometric verification of entire subscription base in which Mobilink is speculated to lose more customers than Telenor.

It won’t be out of place to mention that Mobilink, since Jeffery Hedberg joined as CEO, is putting special focus on business segment through premium services while masses are targeted through extremely aggressive pricing structure for voice and 3G services.

Aamir Ibrahim is again a doer. He believes in aggressive, direct and to the point approach for getting things done.

Given the circumstances, it would be interesting to observe Pakistan’s telecom market during next few months that is undergoing defining moments these days.
