1,685 Aliens Have Returned Their Pakistani CNICs To Date: Nisar

On Wednesday, Interior Minister Chaudry Nisar in regards to NADRA’s ongoing CNIC re-verification project stated that around 1685 ‘aliens’ or non-Pakistanis have voluntarily handed over Pakistani CNICs.
According to details made public, 1,549 Afghans, 44 Bangladeshis, one Indian and an Indonesian returned their Pakistani CNICs. NADRA officials revealed that a total of 67.9 million CNICs had been verified with over 48,000 aliens identified.
Interior Minister Nisar, chairman of the security meeting, ordered to not only take legal and disciplinary actions against those who illegally possessed the fake CNICs but also the NADRA officials who intentionally included the aliens in the organization’s database.
Nisar expressed his concern for the security in front of Interior secretary, the Special Secretary (Interior), NADRA chairman and senior officers from the Interior Ministry who were present at the meeting. He emphasized that complacency in regard to national security reverification drive is unacceptable and a zero tolerance policy will be adopted to ensure that the matters are being dealt with extreme caution.
Moreover, he was humbled by the response of the citizens. A massive 92,300 calls were received by the NADRA’s helpline center for the identification of aliens and verification of their CNICs. A reward list was approved by the Minister for 45 citizens who helped NADRA in identifying aliens.
50 international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) were also approved by the Minister who will be operating in Pakistan. 15 of these INGOs are tied to INGOs Committee of Ministry of Interior. Once cleared, they will also be able to work in Pakistan.
The issue of unlicensed firearms was also discussed where Nisar instructed Interior Ministry to adopt a policy which ensures armed licensing in a proper way. The policy is to be framed for providing arms licences to people like SC and HC judges, media houses, educational institutions, armed forces officials, members of parliament and provincial assemblies.
