If you own an Android phone and you’re tired of waking up to the standard alarm clock tones, you can now easily wake up to a playlist of your favorite songs served up by Spotify instead.

You’ll need to make sure that you have the latest versions of Google Clock and Spotify installed on your phone. You should also be running Android 5.0 or above on your phone, but you don’t need a premium Spotify account to use this feature.

Here’s how to set your alarm to a Spotify playlist:

  1. Open the Clock app and tap the alarm you want to edit or tap the + button to create a new alarm.
  2. Tap the Sounds  (bell) icon.
  3. Tap the Spotify tab.
  4. If this is the first time you’re using the new feature, you’ll be prompted to connect to your Spotify account. Tap Connect.
  5. Once your account is connected, you can select a playlist or album from your recently played songs, browse Spotify’s recommended playlists, or search for a specific track.

You can open up the playlist in Spotify before making a choice. Just tap the three buttons next to the playlist name and tap Open in Spotify.

Once you switch your alarm off, you have the option to keep Spotify playing as you get ready for your day by tapping Continue playing.

The advantage to using a playlist as opposed to a song as your alarm clock is that you’re less likely to get incredibly sick of what was once a favorite song. If you do choose a specific track to wake up to, and it’s a favorite, you should be warned that using a song as your alarm clock can be a surefire way to come to absolutely hate that song.

While waking up to soothing tunes works for some, if you need a little more coaxing when it comes to getting up early, you might want to check out these apps guaranteed to get you out of bed in the morning.
