Former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif has been detained by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) at their offices in Lahore, DawnNewsTV has reported.

The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly has been accused of corruption in the Saaf Pani scam case.

The Bureau reportedly has to take permission from the NA speaker to arrest him.

Shahbaz was detained by NAB officials and his car sent away. His private staff who accompanied him as security have also been sent away.

A heavy contingent of Rangers have been posted outside NAB Lahore, DawnNewsTV reported.

The NAB’s Lahore office had re-summoned Shahbaz today.

Earlier, he had appeared before NAB on a couple of occasions in the Saaf Pani Company and Rs14 billion Ashiana Housing Scheme scams and recorded his statement. He is accused of violating the PPRA rules in the award of contracts in the Saaf Pani Company affairs.

NAB in November last had launched a thorough probe into the affairs of the 56 public-sector companies formed by Shahbaz administration in Punjab for their alleged involvement in corruption.
