The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Monday issued a notification claiming that the private media channels were reportedly airing analysis and comments that were “containing aspersions about the judiciary, while referring to Diamer-Bhasha Dam Fund, without any editorial control”.

The media watchdog further alleged that the news channels in their “current affairs programmes are repeatedly broadcasting derogatory remarks and comments against [the] superior judiciary”.

The notice then goes on to highlight the relevant sections of the Pemra code of conduct the news channels should follow, as can be seen in their tweet below:

The authority has further mentioned that in the event that any licensee is found violating the provisions outlined in the notice, a strict action shall be initiated without any notice or further opportunity of hearing.
