Sahiwal is a small city located in the southern part of Punjab province. It is headquarters of Sahiwal district and is located between Satluj and Ravi River and is about 180kms from the city of Lahore sits on Lahore Multan Road highway. The old name for Sahiwal is Montgomery after Sir Robert Montgomery who was Lieutenant Governor of Punjab during the British Raj. After partition, it was renamed as “Sahiwal” after the Sahi clan from the tribe of Kharal Rajpoots who were natives of this region. This city has a very rich history, after Mughal Empire, the city was taken over by Sikhs before it was taken over by British armed forces. The main source of living for the people of Sahiwal is Agriculture & Livestock. This is a very fertile land main produce from this region is Wheat, Rice & Cotton. Due to its fertility and lots green fields, best cows and buffalos are considered to be from Sahiwal. Sahiwal city is located on the main Railway line-1 that runs from Karachi to Peshawar and it is connected to most of the major cities of Pakistan through trains. There is also an airport in Sahiwal which is not fully operational and is used only for VIP.

Sahiwal is the home of many famous politicians and sports personalities, like Mushtaq Ahmad, Manzoor Elahi and former Finance minister of Pakistan Rana Mohammad Hanif Khan is also from Sahiwal.
