Suicide Bomb Attack in Raiwind Gathering Killing 9

This tragic incident happened on Wednesday evening March 14th, 2018 at the Raiwind Ijtamah (Gathering) with the total presence of more than 80,000 people in that area. According to the police main target of this suicide attack were police as it exploded at the police check post in Raiwind Markaz for Ijtemah (Gathering).

At least 9 people are confirmed dead and a couple of dozen people injured in the incident who were shifted to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital in Raiwind, and Jinnah Hospital in Lahore. According to the media briefing from DIG operations Dr. Haider Ashraf, a suicide bomber approached the area on his motorcycle and he was wearing the suicide jacket which he exploded at the police check post upon confrontation from Police officials. And it resulted in the death of 5 police officers and a dozen more injured.

It took the life of total 9 people including 5 police officers and dozens of others were seriously injured. No militant group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack in Raiwind, but according to officials, it is the attack to stop the PSL matches in Lahore, as it happened last year in February 2017. International; players will be arriving soon in Lahore to play the playoff matches of PSL 2018. Security situations in Pakistan have vastly improved in past years but militant groups such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) still pose a threat and have carried out mass attacks.

Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attack in Raiwind Congregation site and said that brave police officers laid down their lives and protect people because if suicide bombers managed to escape the police check post, then death tool would have been much higher.
