NAB Arrested Shehbaz Sharif in Ashiana Housing Scandal

The National Accountability Bureau arrested Leader of the Opposition and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif in Ashiana Housing Scandal. He was presented in accountability court today, Saturday 6th October.
The NAB on Wednesday had called previous Chief Minister on October 5 for interrogation for the Ashiana Housing Scam. The previous CM was not able show any evidence or arguments before the Combined Investigation Team of the Bureau in his past appearances.
Shehbaz Sharif is accused of illegally using his powers as Punjab CM in Punjab Land Development Company’s Board of Directors. He is accused of being involved with Fawad Hassan Fawad , former Principal Secretary to CM Punjab in illegally cancelling a contract awarded to M/s Chaudry Latif and Sons for infrastructure development of Ashiyana-e-Iqbal Housing Project
On Monday the former Principal Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad was sent to jail on judicial remand for Ashiana Housing City scam. He has been taken under physical remand for misusing his authority as Secretary Implementation of former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He is also accused of concealing the report of the inquiry committee about the contract from the senior officials due to his intentions which were corruptive. The inquiry committee had been working under the supervision of then Finance Secretary Tariq Bajwa.
Shehbaz Sharif is the 8th accused person in this case. Other than the Ashiana Scam, Shehbaz is additionally being investigated regarding the 56 Companies case, Punjab Saaf Paani Company case and a case concerning the development of Raiwind Road.
A huge protest was seen when Shehbaz Sharif was being presented before the court by his supporters and members of PML(N). It is so observable that PTI is using its authority for punishing the corrupt leaders we have had for decades. We hope that the PTI government will hold every politician truly accountable before the Supreme Judiciary now on. This can be seen as a step further towards Naya Pakistan where rich and poor, powerful and weak, everybody will be treated same under the law.
