Chak is a town, located on the West Bank of River Indus in the District of Shikarpur. ‘Chakki’ or pot- wheel is used to make earthenware from clay. The clay or mud is said to be taken from the inside of the nearby ‘Kacha area’; an area between two levees of the River Indus. It’s believed that many potters lived there and that’s how the town got its name, ‘chak’, derived from the word ‘chakki.’

The weather of Chak is blazing hot during summers, while days are chilly in winters. Summers usually arrives in March with temperature ranging from 35-45C. In winters it drops down to 7C.

Wholesale marketing in Chak is sprouting and a lot of bazaars are growing rapidly on the outer parts of town. Main ways to earn living are agriculture, jobs in government and private sector and retail shops.

Regardless of inadequate resources and mediocre infrastructure, a large number of students are attending renowned universities/colleges. There are three libraries established on self help basis.
