Cryptocurrencies have starting gaining more and more recognition in mainstream media and popular culture. This might have something to do with the fact that cryptos have become something of a sexy buzzword recently and the hype outweighs the actual understanding and patience needed to deal with this technology.

However, when super popular US game show, Jeopardy decided to add cryptocurrencies as one of the categories in the show, we paid attention. Why? Well, not only because Jeopardy has become a house hold name in the decades it has been on air but also because it has over 9 million viewers watching in per week!

That’s a lot of your average television consumers gaining much needed insight into the cryptoverse, no matter how slowly and gradually. Most of the crypto trivia questions that were featured in the show were pretty easy and straightforward. However, as expected not everyone out the blockverse thought the same.

Contestants tried to avoid the questions and left them off till the very end as a last resort.

This might have something to do with the fact that unless you’re a fan of blockchain technology or deal in cryptocurrencies, you might not have any information regarding them and it really showed as the contestants made every possible move to avoid the questions.

Some of the crypto based questions that came up during the show included;

$200: AN ALTCOIN IS ANYTHING OTHER THAN ____?

$400: THIS RAPPER KILLED COINYE.

$600: EACH TRANSACTION IS A BLOCK CONNECTED IN THESE DIGITAL LEDGERS THAT ENABLE CRYPTO TO WORK.

$800: THIS 3-LETTER CHAT APP CREATED A CURRENCY SIMILAR TO ITS NAME KIN.

$1000: WHICH COUNTRY CREATED THE PETRO?

Cryptos might be more than just a popular buzzword after all.

What’s surprising however, is that even though contestants showed little love for this new category, all of them answered the questions correctly. This shows that the average viewer isn’t as dumb as you’d think and it also speaks volumes about the way crypto centric media is relaying accurate information about the technology.

Although this is not the first time cryptocurrencies have been featured in a pop culture media artifact, it is exciting to see cryptos become part of something as influential in American media as Jeopardy. What’s more is that the show included the topic in a very positive manner as opposed to most media coverage about cryptos that is merely limited to scams and fraud.
