Government College University Lahore is one of the oldest educational institutes in the country. Established almost 150 years ago, it was once recognized world-wide. After Pakistan was founded, many factors like corruption, negligence, poor management and incapable staff led to its downfall. However, during the reign of the last two vice chancellors, GCU has moved forward quite a bit. A few years ago, students from colleges joined this university for sake of recognition.

Recently, the legend has begun its revival. On May 14th, 2018, GCU was once again ranked as one of the top ten universities of Pakistan. After qualifying in Asia’s top leading universities, it also got ranked as one of the top 351 universities from emerging nations by Time Higher Education. The University was strong in its “international outlook” and weak in “industrial income”. It has also introduced a new drone technology facility, taking in view the huge possible applications of drones in the country.,

GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said that besides giving international recognition, the rankings helped universities understand their weak and strong areas.

Government College University (GCU) Is Ranked One Of The Top In Emerging Nation

Talking about the ranking indicators, Prof Shah said the ranking used the same 13 performance indicators of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, examining each university’s strengths against all of its core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. Concluding his statement, he said:

However, we are informed that this time the methodology has been carefully recalibrated to better reflect the characteristics and development priorities of universities in emerging economies. More weight is given, for example, to a university’s industry links and international outlook.
