After Saif Mulook, Will Asia Bibi Leave Pakistan For The Sake Of Security?

Reportedly Asia Bibi’s lawyer Saiful Mulook has left country and fled to Netherlands after the riots broke out in regard to protest over Asia’s release. The lawyer shared he contacted UN Islamabad with concern to his safety.
He had previously told AFP before his departure on Saturday that he was leaving because “in the current scenario, it’s not possible for me to live in Pakistan”.

He shared that the UN not only agreed to help but also forced him to leave the country against his wish since he wanted to assure his client is out of prison. At a news conference in The Hague on Monday, Mulook said “they kept me for three days and then put on a plane against my wishes”

Whereas UN denied his claim. Eri Kaneko explained : “The UN in Pakistan extended its assistance to Mr. Mulook at his request and did not force him to leave the country against his wishes, nor can the UN force someone to leave Pakistan against his or her will.”

After the order for release of Asia Noureen Bibi and outbreak of riots, Ashiq Masih (the husband) sensed great danger and pleaded for asylum from UK, Canada or USA. Since then several countries has offered protection including Italy who has offered assistance in getting Asia Bibi and family out of country; Italy is not against Pakistan’s government said Italian authorities.

“I want women and children whose lives are at risk to be able to have a secure future, in our country or in other Western countries, so I will do everything humanly possible to guarantee that [for Aasia]. It is not permissible that in 2018 someone can risk losing their life for a … hypothesis of blasphemy,” said Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, who is also interior minister of Italy.

Pakistan information minister Fawad Chaudhry assured BBC news that the security had been beefed up to protest Asia in jail. He said “Yes, there is a situation and we are dealing with it, but I assure you that her life is not in danger,”

Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry and Shireen Mazari tweeted that the petition to review the judgement and to place her name on ECL has nothing to do with the government. Petition review is an individual’s legal right and is accepted by the court but during negotiations with TPL protestors, the government agreed to initiate the legal process to place Asia Noureen’s name on the ECL.
