A conversation requires the balance between speaking and listening. And somehow in this fast world we have lost having the long conversations we used to have in our childhood. This is due to the smartphones and other technologies that surround our life. A recent research has showed that about to third of the teenagers in south America sends one hundred messages a day. Most of them are comfortable with having a conversation on the cell phone rather than talking face to face.

We all keep hearing tips and ways to talk better so we compiled a neat and easy list for you!

  1. Don’t multi-task

This does not mean that you put your cell phones switched off while having the conversation but it is more important to be present in the conversation that you are having, think about the moment not about having a bad time with your boss.

Don’t be half in it or half out of it.

  2.  Don’t pontificate

It you are not listening to the other person’s opinion why don’t you go and write a blog. If you want to stick up to your opinion only then what is the point of having the conversation. Listen to their opinions, and don’t focus on your own too much.

  3. Use open ended questions

Start your questions with Who, When, Why or How. Don’t throw a simple question this will only make the conversation dull and boring.

  4. Go with the flow

Stories and ideas will come to your mind let them flow out of your mouth.

  5. Say no if you actually don’t know

Talk should not be cheap. Have the power to say no if you don’t know about a question somebody just threw, be real.

  6. Don’t equate your experience with others

If a person is telling you about losing someone that was important to him, never start sharing your experience. All experiences are individual, it’s not the same.

  7. Try not to repeat yourselves

We do this thing mostly at work. We try to impress people around us by repeating our words.

  8. Forget the details

People are never interested in dates and figures, they care for you and wanted to know about you.

  9. Listen

This is the most important way of having a good conversation. Someone says, ” if your mouth is open, you are not learning”.

  10. Be brief

A good conversation is like a mini-skirt; short enough to retain interest, but long enough to cover the subject. Be interested in other people.

Go out and practice listening to people.
